One extended voyage through Australia has been cancelled days after the death of an senior woman who was left behind by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

A major rescue mission found her body the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that travelers and crew on the ship were told that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an updated communication, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would attend the liner in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Incidents

The ship first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was just two days into the journey at the moment of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

Guests on the vessel - who generally pay large sums of dollars to participate in the expedition - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the island after an scheduled tour without my parent".

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have undertaken that might have saved Her being".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and mum took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to go back, alone. Then the vessel sailed away, apparently without doing a roll call.

Operator Reaction

Via official communication, the CEO confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had offered its total backing to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The vessel serves up to 120 travelers with 46 crew, according to company information. It was purpose-built to access remote locations of the nation's coastline and is fitted with "small boats" - compact vessels used to take individuals on shore trips.

Occurrences like this are infrequent, and passenger vessels have procedures to record which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard really isn't an possibility," an authority commented.
