Similar to bad weather tore through the northwest the previous evening, the home side swept Manchester United aside at the their home ground. It was a convincing 3-0 triumph for their manager's side owing to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their championship potential as they reinforced their standing at the top of the table.

Consecutive Defeats for Manchester United

This result marked back-to-back WSL defeats for the United manager's side for the first time since last May, placing them a significant margin off the league leaders with their championship aspirations in serious doubt.

United’s capacity to juggle league and continental soccer with a thin roster has been a widely debated issue since they earned a place in the UCL. Looking at the fixture list, it always seemed this was the period that would fully examine this capability. Sadly for the visitors, they looked weary from start to finish, the memorable win against the French side clearly having had an impact.

Lineup Adjustments

Skinner had attempted to freshen things up with a handful of changes. Toone, Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all brought vigor, although the dropping of the in-form Malard to the bench raised a few eyebrows.

Dominant First Half
