AC Shadows Introduces Surprising AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a bizarre collaboration that defies traditional expectations, the game developer has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost extra story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Questline Disclosed
According to the authorized announcement, "A mysterious encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of prohibited rituals and terrifying metamorphoses echo through the obscurity." The narrative presents a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a hidden sect.
The questline centers on "peculiar experiments and a fearsome adversary" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Iconic Locations and Metamorphoses
The preview showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser ends with a powerful moment showing a character, presumably the hostage, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Rewards and Extra Features
Players who finish the adventure will obtain an exclusive katana together with several artifacts concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Special implements
- Survey Corps mount
Newest Free Story Content
This release also brings the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This humorous adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature techniques: Naoe reveals a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime franchises. The series previously included a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that unmistakably nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
